The opening ceremonies and presidential welcomes will be celebrated with an unforgettable evening at the Vancouver Aquarium. Delegates are invited to relax, mingle, and meet new friends and old colleagues while enjoying a delicious array of food offerings reflecting the multiculturalism of Vancouver. Take a leisurely walk through the aquarium exhibits to see a glimpse of West Coast underwater habitats, as well as sea creatures from more exotic parts of the world.

Time Capsule: Destination Safety Hospitality Suite

Newfoundland and Labrador’s Workplace Health, Safety and Compensation Commission will host the 2009 AWCBC Symposium “Time Capsule: Destination Safety”. Visit their Hospitality Suite on Monday, October 27 from 5 -7 p.m. in the Princess Louisa Suite, and learn about the events planned for the 2009 Symposium in historic and beautiful St. John’s. Come and enjoy food and beverages with the Newfoundland and Labrador delegation, who really know how to throw a great party! Live entertainment, featuring renowned traditional fiddler, Kelly Russell. Can’t be missed!
Under the theme of “Time Capsule: Destination Safety”, the 2009 Symposium will focus on what workers’ compensation boards will look like within the next decade, and what issues will need to be addressed to ensure a healthy workforce and a strong client focused and sustainable workers’ compensation system in the future. Within this context, delegates and speakers will have an opportunity to consider the business of WCBs, what prevention initiatives will be required and how we can match services to future client needs. |

Chocolate Tasting

Even if you’re not a “chocoholic,” chances are you enjoy eating the stuff. But, did you know chocolate’s become a gourmet item, ranking among such delicacies as fine wine, coffee, tea, cheese, and olive oil? And, did you know, like a fine wine or good coffee, premium chocolate can be tasted for its fruity, flowery, spicy, and woody (among others) flavour notes?
Join us for an evening of fine chocolate, where you’ll learn all there is to know about the art of chocolate tasting, and have the opportunity to discover single estate, grand cru, and other premium chocolate.
The tasting will include:
- An interactive presentation on where chocolate comes from, how it’s made, what distinguishes a high-quality chocolate from a lesser quality product, and how to use your five senses to taste the subtle nuances between chocolate from different parts of the world
- A guided tasting and discussion of eight specialty chocolates from the finest chocolate producers in the world
- A wine tasting to see what wines pair best with eight types of chocolate
- The chance to test your “chocolate smarts” and compete for chocolate and wine prizes
You’ll be provided with a tasting guide and chocolate rating sheets, with plenty of room to mark your observations. You’ll also receive a small chocolate tasting box with five varieties of fine chocolate – enough to host your own chocolate tasting for friends!
